And we need all the help we can get.
Today we live in the era of the independent artist. Because there’s no longer a cookie-cutter model for how to be successful in music, the new frontier is often intimidating and, with more independent bands out there than ever, competition is fierce.
The state of things nowadays can be summed up like this: Being in a band is like running a small business. There are countless costs– travel expenses, stocking up on merchandise, advertising, public relations, even paying a lease (for a space to rehearse). By helping invest in my small business, you have the unique opportunity to help launch the careers of several young musicians. While the return isn’t exactly monetary, it’s nonetheless visible and palpable. When you see me and my band on television or movies, hear us on the radio, or stand in the audience at a live show, you’ll know you were there at the start, laying the bricks of what we hope will be a beautiful building. None of what you donate will be squandered, and, moreover, no donation will go unthanked.
I admit that endeavoring into a career in music is foolish on all accounts– the time and effort required is huge. Knowing that, I would never have chosen this path if I wasn’t cut out for the struggle involved. Music means the world to me and I’m no quitter. Likewise, I will never become complacent should my music take off. I’m not saying this to boast. Rather, I’m reassuring all donors to this cause that each dollar that comes in just adds more fuel to my fire for success. At the same time, with each album sold I’ll be more and more grateful to the people that helped me along the way.
Sincerely,
-AM
